64-year old tenor Luciano Pavarotti will start the season with a concert in Madison Square Gardens on September 14. The singer justified it in the following way: "I grew up in Italy, but my career wouldn't have been successful if there was no New York. I'll be honest. This was the start of my fame, and I am very familiar with this city."
It's true that his fame started out right after his concert at the Metropolitan Opera House in 1972. The singer, currently touring the States, and New York Mayor Rudolf Guiliani, recently exchanged a few polite words about this. Pavarotti said, "New York has the best concert halls, where the best singers can perform." Meanwhile, the mayor answered, "New Yorkers have a special connection with Mister Pavarotti thanks to his numerous concerts in the Metropolitan and in Central Park."
